Not all soils are the same – that’s why there are different ways of scarifying. Choosing the right method is crucial to give the plants a good start without unnecessarily damaging the soil and natural values.
Here are three common methods:
- Spot soil preparation – most common in southern Sweden. Individual patches are exposed with mineral soil.
- Mounding – suitable for moist soils. Soil is shoveled into piles on top of which the seedling is placed.
- Harrowing – more surface covering method, mainly in large clearings or drier soils.
This is how we choose the method:
- By soil type (peat, bog, clay, rock)
- By planned tree species
- Depending on the humidity, slope and accessibility of the cut
At Grimslövs Skogstjänst we always do a field assessment before we start. This is how we guarantee a sustainable and cost-effective result.
