Scarification is a powerful tool in forest management, but it also raises questions about its impact on climate and the environment. Properly executed scarification contributes to increased growth – meaning more carbon dioxide is sequestered in the trees. At the same time, care must be taken with soil disturbance and protection zones around water bodies.
Environmentally sound principles for land preparation:
- Avoid soil preparation in buffer zones and wetlands
- Use modern technology with good ground pressure distribution
- Adapting the method to the sensitivity of the site
Grimslöv’s Forest Service works with careful planning and follows current guidelines from the Swedish Forest Agency, FSC and PEFC. Our goal is that every measure should be both productive and ecologically well thought out.
